EARLY 20TH C. IBAN-DAYAK SHIELD

A beautifully carved and decorated Iban/Dayak battle shield, early 20th c., 47 approximate inches, old polychrome painted protective aso on front and reverse with extensive goat hair decoration.
I purchased this wonderful shield from auction house Tribal Gatherings, PA. for more than I am listing for and it has all of the characteristics of a distinctive Dayak shield: appropriate weight, very good imagery, and a good size.
Condition: intact, with some pitting of the wood particularly en verso around handle. The Dayak have intrigued me and I have found the best resource for Dayak art is the reference book Horn and Dragon.
