A good
example of one of the (many?) editions of Mrs Beeton’s Everyday Cookery,
hardback book. It was published by Ward, Lock & Co Ltd in the early 1950s.
No printed date but on the blank 5th page (the back of the first
colour plate) someone has nearly written Xmas 1954. Looking at the advertising at the front and
back of the book that looks to be about right. Some adverts look as though they
are a bit older but some are familiar from 1950s magazines.
The book
measures just over 8” x almost 6” and contains over 750 pages, including the extensive
index. There are eight full-colour plates and nearly 150 illustrations. Many (most/all)
of the images look to be from previous Mrs Beeton’s books from earlier in the century.
If the book
originally had a dust jacket this is missing. There are slight bumps to the corners but
other than that it is in good clean condition throughout.
