This original Antique hardcover book edition of THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK By Alexandre Dumas has a grading scale of “An Acceptable” condition due to extensive color fading - heavy browning - rubbing - tearing's, cracking - smearing at the edges, partial missing pages, discolorations due to partial water damage, heavy browning of pages, pencil writings at the back side of the front cover and 1st page pastedown, the use of adhesive clear tape to secure rip pages that has turned brown due to aging, and partial ripping of some of pages due to age of this book.

The copyright page is missing. The 1st page has 3 adhesive tape to secure this page that turned brown due to aging. Pages 12 - 17 uses the same adhesive tape that turned brown from aging. Partial foxing brown smudging is seen in some of the pages. No tiny brown spots, which is also a sign of foxing. The last 2-3 pages are partially ripped from the internal binding, but still intact.

The front cover: cloth like feel and looks with extensive color fading, color smudging, discolorations from partial liquid damage & rubbing smearing of the cloth cover. The perimeter edges show heavy scuffing, which is tearing the cloth. The fold seen at the edges nearest to the spine shows crimping, rubbing and partial tearing. The top/bottom top edges show heavy dented-scuffing tearing's. The backside of this front cover shows moderate browning, with folded crimp edges. There are pencil markings at this location which goes all the way to the front cover pastedown or (1st page). Moderate browning is seen with extensive color fading

The spine condition: the same cloth like material that has texture & feel. Heaving color fading/browning/rubbing, scuffing around the top/bottom corners & edges. The title heading is partially readable due to color fading, rubbing, smearing. The top/bottom edges at the spine shows tearing-rubbing

The back cover condition: Below acceptable condition, but intact. Heavy color fading/browning. Looks like liquid damage that dried up showing discoloration patterns. Extensive smearing - rubbing found within this region. The perimeter edges which include the edges nearest to the spine show heavy rubbing, smearing, color degradation, tearings. The top/bottom edges show dented crimp corners with rubbing. The backside of this back color shows a heavy browning line with the back cover pastedown or last page tearing from the original stitch binding. Discoloration foxing smudging pattern is seen at the last page, with heavy color fading.

The internal pages: all internal pages are in an acceptable condition. The copyright page is missing, and the 1st few pages were secured with an adhesive tape that turned a heavy brown color due to aging. Some pages are tearing, but intact, which includes the last pages at the back. Heavy to moderate browning of the top. Heavy color fading of the original black text. Some evidence of foxing with a browning hue discoloration pattern seen prominently at the edges of the pages. Maybe some browning spotting or a partial tiny brown spot, which is at a quick glance.

The top edge/bottom edges/& center fore edges of book: The said locations here are in an acceptable condition, fully intact with partial even cutting when the book was assembled. Heavy to moderate color fading/browning seen at all three regions. The center fore edge of the book shows a curved inward appearance which will make this book slanted.Heavy browning/color fading seen here.

The entire book is slanted when laid down. However, it is able to stand up when placed in an upward position. The entire hardcover book edition is still in a good structural condition despite the existing condition and the entire book is still in a readable state of condition.

Final grading of the entire book: Below acceptable to an acceptable condition. Rating of 4 to10. Acceptable but readable with existing structural conditions.
