"Othello was believed to have been written in 1603. It's based on the story Un Capitano Moro ("A Moorish Captain") by Cinthio, first published in 1565. The story revolves around its two central characters: Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, and his treacherous ensign, Iago. Its varied and enduring themes are of racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge, and repentance." (Wikipedia).

Shakespeare's "Tragedy of Othello," was published by the American Book Company in 1907. It was used as a textbook by Hilda V. Ellyson during her tenure at the University of Iowa as an English major during the 1st decade of the 20th century. Her notes are prevalent throughout the play but they don't interfere with your ability to read the scripts. The back endpapers are filled with her notes about the play.

The cover is in good condition with some corner bumps and fraying along the top and bottom of the spine. The front endpaper has pulled loose from the binding but the rest of the binding is strong. The volume measures 6 3/4" by 5" and has 216 pages including index. There are illustrations throughout the play to enhance the readers enjoyment of the drama unfolding.
