This is a very unique Wide Nassa Shell and Conus Shell Woven Fiber
Armband from the Abelam Tribe, Sepik Region of Papua New Guinea. The
nassa shells are sewn on to the plant dyed bush fiber armband and it has
a conus shell dangling panel. This is worn by a man relating to his
wealth and status. Shells in Papua New Guinea are considered currency
and armbands of this type show bravery and are significant to the man
who created it. This is also known as a brides price and can used used
in bartering and trading. This is very unique woven armband and would
be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection.
