Radio Caroline Bible:

Behind the scenes of the world's most famous offshore radio station

DESCRIPTION

Romance & adventure on the world’s best known radio ship. She has battled with authorities, the elements and gangsters, but continues to beam Love, Peace and Music to the world. This small privately owned radio station was set up to break the Government’s stranglehold on radio broadcasting. Some of her backers wanted to kick-start commercial radio, some wanted to create an outlet for music and some simply believed in freedom of expression and wanted to promote music.

The Radio Caroline team’s main driving force was a young Irishman, working in the music business in London. He persuaded a small group of affluent English aristocrats with connections to the very top of the monarchy to back his project - offshore radio. Being the first all day pop music station at the vanguard of the British music explosion, Radio Caroline was a sensation. Competitors came and went, but Caroline continued, overcoming insurmountable odds. Legislation, the loss of masts, a raid by armed thugs, grounding of ships and even a sinking were just some the obstacles the Caroline team faced. Radio Caroline survived it all and continues today, promoting Love, Peace and Good Music. Now restricted to UK waters, Radio Caroline operates legally and has slowly developed a network of outlets. She can be heard on 648 AM, DAB and online around the world.

This is a remarkable story about the Radio Caroline family, the people who made this world-famous phenomenon tick. Author Paul Rusling has been involved with dozens of radio stations in many countries, including several at sea. He began his career on Radio Caroline and his first-hand knowledge of the Caroline family brings alive the passion and the efforts of her DJs, the engineers and support staff. Many of them helped write this story of the station that jump-started music radio in Britain and made radio exciting.
