These are perfect summertime engineer boots, lightweight, and soft.

If you have never handled these boots before, they go on more like a very thick wool sock then a stiff horsehide boot because of the soft deer skin leather. You kind of push your foot into them more than drop your foot into them. I generally oh the buckles around the instep before I put them on.

From Lofgren website

Ezo Shika are Japanese deer that live in Japan's northern Hokkaido region. Larger than all other Shika subspecies, this deer lives an extra rugged life in mostly snowy areas. For centuries the indigenous Ainu people have hunted them as a major food source and armorers incorporated the robust deerskin into samurai armor. Today deerskin can still be found being used in making kendo and kyudo bogu.

To make our boots using Ezo Shika deerskin two layers must be used. The liner being an oiled tanned leather, and the outter shell being a waxed finished tanning that's burnished. The Ezo Shika are wild deer and the leather is not corrected at all. The natural grain will especially appeal to leather enthusiasts.

John Lofgren Bootmaker Engineer Boots are based on careful examination of several pairs of vintage engineers from John's archive. Hours and hours of design, redesign, and more pattern adjustments and sample builds than anyone could possibly tally. The end result represents "Made in Japan" at its finest painstaking attention to detail, master craftsmanship.
