Assassin Snail Description

Scientific Name: Clea Helena

Assassin snails are an essential when it comes to fish keeping. Not only do they make great pets, but they also help maintain your tank. Assassin snails are different from typical snails because they are known to hunt down and consume unwanted pest snails. They are also known to be bottom feeders or decomposers since they also consume leftover fish food, fish secretions, dead organisms, and more.

Characteristics and Basic Care

  • Care Difficulty: Great for beginner aquarists

  • Diet: Carnivorous

  • Average Life Span: 1 to 2 years

  • Average Adult Size: 1 - 2 inches long

  • Optimal Tank Size: 10 gallons or more

In order to maintain your snails, please know that these snails are carnivorous and will only consume and scavenge for foods that contain protein. These assassin snails consume foods such as frozen blood worms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, fish food flakes or pellets, fish secretions, dead organisms, or even prey that are not fast enough to escape. If you plan on leaving these foods in your tank, multiple water changes are required throughout the week to maintain the water parameter specifications and needs for your pets.
