Why are Crocus bulbs pre-chilled?

Crocus bulbs need to undergo a chilling period of 12 weeks; hence it is recommended to plant them in Fall so that they bloom in Spring. if you forgot or did not get time to buy and plant them sooner, or live in warm, tropical climate, no worries! These bulbs have been PRE-CHILLED for more than 12 weeks and are READY TO BLOOM in 2-3 weeks when placed in a sunny warm location indoors at temperature above 65 deg F. Or they can be stored over winter in a cold (40 degrees F), dry, unheated place e.g., basement/garage and planted outside in the Spring.
