Vesper Hymns, original music, Richard Tolson Londonderry M137.

Unusual and interesting lot consisting of a letter and the words and scores for two vesper hymns. The letter is from a Richard B Tolson who was at or about this time the organist at Carlisle Road Methodist Church Londonderry/Derry. He had a music studio at 4 Bayview Terrace within the City and gave piano lessons there up until I think the 1940’s. The addressee of the letter is Lady Anderson the wife of Sir Robert Anderson of Deanfield,(parents of the penultimate mayor of the old Londonderry Corporation).

Mr Tolson was sending copies of the two hymns to Lady Anderson the first hymn having been inscribed to the Andersons. No 2 refers to a Mr & Mrs Thompson of Raincliffe , Galashiels.

The letter page measures some 9 x7 in. It has one transverse fold and there ia quarter inch tear along the fold on the left side. Some creasing and a little staining which is more noticeable o the rear. Please refer to and rely on photos.

Both hymn cards have folds about one inch from right with some discolouration noticeable in this one inch strip most particularly in the Thompson hymn. Creasing at top right of both and Anderson hymn has some damage top right. The left hand sides front and back might suggest that the hymns may have been bound at one time.
