I have here for sale a beautifully illustrated book entitled SCOTTISH SCENERY Twenty Views engraved by W Byrne from pictures from G Walker with brief descriptions. It is a first edition published by T Cadell and W Davies, London in 1807. Includes engravings of Edinburgh, St Bernard's Well, Dunkeld, Ossians' Hall, Loch Leven Castle, Pass of Killicrankie, Blair of Athole, Fall of the Bruar, Village of Weem (torn but professionally repaired and laid down), Taymouth, Fall of Aharan, Kill-Linn, Inverary, Loch Lomond, Dunbarton Castle, Bothwell Castle, Stone-Byres, On the River Mouse, Bonnington, and Loch Kettrin(small tear not affecting the text). Each plate is followed by one page of explanatory text.
Quarter maroon leather on black marbled paper. Marbled paper is lifting from front board, all the paper is detached from the rear board and the rear board itself is detaching. Leather missing from one corner. Marbled paper from rear board tucked inside the book. Ink inscription to first page. However the rest of the pages are clean and firm, so this book just needs a rebind to make it very nice. Tiny amount of bookworm to the title page and first few pages. 40 pages, 24 x 31 cm.
