Dwarf Mondo Grass, Ophiopogon japonicas 'Nana', is sometimes used as an alternative to turf when only very light foot traffic is expected. Plant along borders or along pathways for a tailored look.

With correct spacing, it makes delightful geometric patterns that go with a more contemporary or city look. When planted in mass, it will make a fascinating groundcover that will need much less water and maintenance than average turf. It looks tremendous when planted between stepping stones and in rock gardens. Dwarf Mondo Grass 'Nana' is a tough little plant that can even look great in full shade and be grown on the seacoast without issue.
