Talbot Booth SHIPS magazine Vol 1 Issue 11 August 1947 - Good condition - RARE

Here we have on offer Issue 11 of the first volume of Talbot Booth's 'Ships' Magazine, published for Merchant Shipping Enthusiasts and Spotters in August 1947.

The early issues of 'Ships' magazine are now extremely scarce and are a great collectors' item for Shipping Enthusiasts, packed with interesting and informative facts from the era, compiled by the renowned expert in these matters, E. C. Talbot-Booth.

Following the Second World War, Talbot Booth set in motion a monthly information magazine to provide a regular update to his wartime 'Merchant Ships' volumes which had been massive tomes of information that included hundreds of ship identification line drawings of Merchant Ships from all around the world. These ship diagrams were all drawn to scale and expertly presented.

(If you would like to see a typical volume of 'Merchant Ships,' I occasionally have examples for sale at very reasonable prices on this ebay sales page. Just perform a search for 'Talbot Booth Merchant Ships' on my 'items' page).

Each 'Ships' magazine issue measured 14cm (width) by 22cm (height) and consisted of between 21 and 32 pages.

Volume One Issue 11 is divided into the following sections:

Editorial

A History of British & Irish Steam Packet Co. Ltd "B &I" (Dublin)

Miniature Ship Modelling (Whale Factory Ship "Balaena." - United Whalers Ltd. London)

Four pages featuring detailed drawings and silhouettes of six Merchant Ships of different companies.

Company News

Two photos of Merchant Ships circa 1947

Merchant Ship Recognition

Flags, Funnels, Colouring Etc.

Changes of name or ownership

Total Losses / ships sold for breaking up / new or re-built ships.

Period adverts also feature on the front inside and rear inside / outside covers plus on three additional pages.

The condition of the magazine is good including the covers and the pages are all in order with no deterioration. There is some foxing on the front and rear covers (both inside and out). Please view the images closely (using zoom) to glean an accurate feel for the item's condition.

These magazines were printed on fairly low quality paper, probably owing to post-war paper shortages in the UK.

Postage within the UK is free and the magazine will be sent by Royal Mail Second Class with Proof of Postage in either a stiff or stiffened envelope and a 'Handle with care - do not bend' notice.

If you purchase from an overseas location, you will be subject to the usual costs associated with the ebay Global Shipping Program.
