Arthur Laurents (born Arthur Levine) was an American playwright, stage director and screenwriter. His Broadway
credits include Westside Story, Gypsy and La Cage Aux Folles. Some of his screenplays include Rope (1948),
Anastasia (1956), Bonjour Tristesse (1958), The Way We Were (1973) and The Turning Point (1977) for which 
he received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture (with Herbert Ross) and Best Screenplay. Laurents 
was blacklisted, but his career, mostly theatre at the time, was not adversely effected. He won the Tony Award 
several times.
