The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was first published on December 10, 1884 by Chatto & Windus in London and by Dawson Brothers in Montreal. 

Charles L. Webster and Company, run by Twain’s nephew, Charles Webster, published the first American edition of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in February, 1885. This version, which is also the first illustrated edition, features 175 plates by E.W. Kemble. Approx. 20,000 copies were published in cloth, another 2500 in Sheepskin, and 500 in 3/4 leather. 


First Printing, with all points of issue present (as per photos):
  1. On page 13 the illustration "Him and Another Man" is listed as being on page 88 where in this case the illustration appears on page 87 (first state).
  2. The 11th line from the bottom of page 57 reads "with the was"
  3. final 5 on page 155 hand-stamped with larger number
  4. earliest portrait frontispiece with "Heliotype Printing Co."
  5. title page with 1885
  6. On page 9 under "Chapter VI" the reading is "Huck Decided to Leave."
  7. cloth under the bust of Twain on the frontispiece

This particular copy is in near very good condition. All pages clean and fairly bright, with no foxing. The name F.A. Easton in light pen at the center of flyleaf. Edgewear (as per photos) at tips and top and bottom of spine, as is common. A single signature with loose original stitch. All minor flaws easily repaired by your favorite antiquarian binder.
