Orders are Orders - A Manchester Pal on the Somme, from the account written in 1917 by Albert William Andrews (of the 19th Battalion, Manchester Regiment)

Published by Neil Richardson in 2004, 50 pages. A4 size booklet (N4085PE)

From the introduction: On Saturday 8th July 1916, Albert William Andrews narrowly escaped being blown up by a German shell. Unaware of how badly the concussion had affected him, he rejoined his unit andf continued fighting until he was wounded again on 23rd July..... This account was written during his convalescence in 1917, and is based on a diary he carried with him on active service. It reflects his transformation from raw recruit to seasoned 'old un' and he also describes in detail and with a critical eye the hardships of the ordinary soldier in and out of the trenches. Sections include:

  • A proud tradition

Their is an old price printed on the front cover and a small price sticker on the rear side cover

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
