Get Creative With Your Windows: Installing Your Static Cling Decoration

Step 1:

Preparing your window.

To get the best adhesion to your window, it is vital that your window is thoroughly cleaned before application.

In the image to the left, I used isopropyl alcohol as it removes dirt and grit. However, warm soapy water will also work well.

Thoroughly clean down any part of the window where you want to install your graphic. Make sure your window is spotlessly clean before moving onto the next step.

Step 2:

Remove the backing sheet

Your window graphic most likely won't look the same as the one pictured, but don't worry, the process is still the same.

The easiest way of removing the backing sheet from your window cling, is by placing the window cling against the now clean window and gently lift up one corner of the cling and pull gently downwards.

Once a small amount of the cling has been removed from the backing sheet, use your other hand to hold the backing sheet down. Once your second hand is keeping the backing sheet in place, continue to remove the rest of the static cling.

Once fully removed, allow the backing sheet to fall on the floor whilst holding the static cling in your hands.

Step 3:

Window Graphic placement on window.

Once you have removed your backing sheet, it's time to get your window decoration in place.

There is no glue on these window decorations, which means you can reposition your graphic fairly easily by lifting it up and moving to your desired location.

Your graphic, will most likely look something like the photo to being with and that's fine.

The important part at this stage is making sure that your window decoration is aligned to the top of the window seal, as this will ensure fits within your window as intended.

Step 4:

Straightening out your graphic

Now you have the positioning as you want it, pull at the bottom two edges of your graphic and slowly bring it away from the glass.

This will unstick the cling and allow you to pull the graphic straight and flat, removing kinks and bumps from the print before final application.

Once you have done the bottom part of your graphic like this, do the same to the top half by slowly peeling it away from the glass and laying down again, flat and with no bumps.

Step 5:

Removing bubbles.

The final step is to remove air bubbles from the window decoration.

We do this by pushing the air out. We can achieve this by using our hands or by using a Window Cling Applicator (Available through our store. These aren't critical to use, but it does make life easier).

If your window cling isn't completely flat before you start, this isn't an issue. As you can see from the photo, i have lifted up the window decoration. This was due to the film not being completely flat before hand.

With one hand (In my case, my non-dominant hand) held the window film away from the glass whilst my dominant hand pushed left and right on the glass, pushing the air bubbles out. You go left whilst slowly going down at the same time. Once you get to the edge of the film, you then push slowly right and down until you get to the right edge, then head over to the left edge until the graphic has been completely installed.

If a crease appears whilst you are applying your graphic, don't panic. Simply lift your window graphic up to remove the crease and slowly straight to work left and right again.

Step 6:

Your graphic installation is finished.

Your graphic is fitted and should look amazing, so well done you!

You can clean you window decoration with soap and water in the future.

As there is no glue, you can move to a different window or remove entirely with no risk of glue being left on the glass afterwards.

These window clings are re-usable if you take care of them.
