Girolamo Zanchi

Important defense of the doctrine of the Trinity

Girolamo Zanchi (Latin: Hieronymus Zanchius, thus Anglicized to "Jerome Zanchi/Zanchius"; February 2, 1516 – November 19, 1590) was an Italian Protestant Reformation clergyman and educator who influenced the development of Reformed theology during the years following John Calvin's death.

Zanchi amassed a wealth of evidence from both the New Testament and the Old to prove that the doctrine of the Trinity had been clear to God’s people from the very beginning of divine revelation. His conviction that the Hebrew language was the original, divine, prelapsarian language, aided his confidence that significant theological truth was conveyed by certain peculiarities in the Hebrew text. Thus, Zanchi’s argument in De Tribus Elohim was actually calculated to answer the biblicism of the anti-Trinitarians.
