A wonderful opportunity to purchase this circa 1950’s very rare not often seen model, the Rolex Precision Nick named ‘Egyptian’ housed in 19mm x 31mm solid gold case. The design of the case is reminiscent of the usekh broad collar worn by Egyptian Pharaohs (2500 BC) which was wrapped around and supported by the neck and shoulders. It was typically made entirely of yellow metal. The collars were connected with clasps.

This ladies Rolex time piece is a classic. Wear it alone or stack it with bracelets and you are sure to make a fashion statement. A wonderful Manual wind Ladies Rolex watch with rare powering hooded lugs from horology’s most famous name. The original dial is signed ‘Rolex Precision’ with Swiss Made at the very bottom the case and movement are both signed Rolex. Serviced by a Rolex specialist watchmaker, with no issues to report keeping accurate time and in good running order, ready to treasure and enjoy!

Rolex marketed this watch to the Lady who placed perfection before price and "Created by perfectionists for perfectionists" and it's easy to see why when you look at this wonderful sophisticated example.

Encased in an 9 carat yellow gold case which has been preserved remarkably well with some marks and light wear, the ‘pièce de résistance’ of this piece is of course the lug design which has been profusely made and incredibly characteristic defining the watch’s aesthetic. They also add to the watch's proportions quite significantly at a generous height of 31mm from end to end. At 19mm wide this watch is small sized but it wears larger on the wrist thanks to the presence of these seldom hooded lugs nick named ‘Egyptian’ .

Additional Information;

While the gents Rolex Precision was Rolex’s best selling watch throughout the 1950s and ’60s, many will be surprised to learn there was also a ladies Precision, sold at the same time. These made up around 10% of all the Rolex Precisions produced. Half of these were sold on leather straps and half on integral Rolex gold bracelets. These were expensive watches at the time, because it was much more difficult to produce the much smaller 13.75mm diameter Rolex Calibre series movements, to the same required levels of accuracy and reliability as the movements in the larger gents watches.

It is not quite so well known that Rolex was actually founded in the UK in London 1905 and it was not until 1919 that the company transferred its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland. It is also a misconception that the world of luxury watches is a gentlemans one, as the first recorded wristwatch was actually designed for a lady. In June 1810, Abraham-Louis Breguet made a watch for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. For many decades, women have proudly worn Rolex watches and have been integral to the brand’s success…

Rolex went to considerable lengths and expense to ensure its 13.75mm diameter, small movements performed equally as well as its larger gents Precision movements – and they succeeded! These are indeed high precision movements and the example here is running perfectly, having been calibrated to run consistently.
