NOTE: The new belts you receive will likely be an inch or two shorter than the old belt you took off of your vacuum. WHY??:
Belts must be stretched to almost twice their original length to install and will lose elasticity within a few months. Change your Vacuum Belts every 6 months for best performance when vacuuming carpets. Your belt may still turn the brush roll but when vacuuming carpets it will slip and not deep clean the carpets properly.

Before installing the new belt make sure the end caps will turn freely. Hair, dust, etc can build up under the end caps causing it to not turn freely. Be sure to clean the hair and lint from around the end caps of the brush roll or it may break your new belt or damage the brush roll or the vacuum cleaner nozzle housing. After installing the bottom plate make sure the brush roll will turn before you plug the vacuum in and turn it on. If the bottom plate is pinching the belt it may damage the new belt you just installed.

WHY do vacuum belts NEED Changed if they're not broken?
You have to stretch a new belt to get it on your vacuum. Every day your belt looses elasticity (think of a 2 inch rubber band that you stretch to 4 inches and leave it that way for a few months) Even if your vacuum cleaner is never used the belt is stretching and loosing elasticity. Every single day it doesn't work quite as well as the day before. It will still pick up hair and light dust but can't dislodge the heavy sandy, gritty soils to the surface of the carpet fibers to be sucked out of the fibers. After 6 months the brush-roll really starts to slow down. It may even stop spinning completely when the vacuum cleaner nozzle is lowered onto the carpet.
