Use a good quality spray adhesive. The best products will allow you to immediately re-position the fabric and fix an error. Avoid contact cement, it dries too quick and can be messy. Spray an adequate amount of adhesive to cover the surface you're working on. Use a thinner layer on the carpet itself. Smooth the carpet on the surface and allow to dry. Covering and cutting smaller areas at a time will often yield the best results. Carpet will attract sawdust, lint, and dirt. Make sure your work area is clear before you start your project.
