Fanny Trollope wrote Domestic Manners of the Americans, an unflattering account of her trip.
Fanny Kemble was English actress who married a wealthy Philadelphian plantation owner.

Harriet Martineau, often seen as the first female sociologist and a leading abolitionist.

22 x 14 cm. 304 pp + 3 plates.

Very good condition, cloth lightly rubbed, foxing to the page edges, remainder mark on the bottom edge, rear hinge cracking but binding still sound.
