Half leather and marble paper binding with raised bands and gilt decoration to the panels with contrasting labels and gilt lettering.  Previous owners bookplate of Selborne to the front paste down, marble paper to the paste down and end paper, Also illustrated bookplate of the esteemed Historian Anne Sutton. to the reverse of the 1st end paper. 

Volume 1 - Frontispiece + Title page + xliii + 399pp (foxing to the frontispiece and title otherwise clean) 

Volume 2 - Frontispiece + title page + vii + 444pp including index ( foxing as above)
