CROMAR Protect1F Roof Underslating Felt Non-Breathable Membrane 1m x 45m Roll
DESCRIPTION:
A Non Vapour Permeable ( non breather ) membrane for use under slating and tiled pitched roofs.
Introduction: Protect 1f is a high performance underlay for pitched roofs, which must be ventilated in
accordance with BS5250 2021.
Install Protect 1F line with BS5534 2018.
Protect 1f prevents the ingress of dust, rain and snow into the roof void. The membrane is
classed as a secondary and should be treated as such and correctly installed will provide
temporary protection of up to 3 months until the primary barrier ( slates/tiles ) have been
installed.
The high performance lightweight material is clean and easy to handle, and the 45m x 1m roll
size allows for easy handling.
Protect 1f is made up of three layer construction, comprising 2 high tensile polypropylene fabric
layers, fused together around an impervious film and is coloured anthracite.

Application: Protect 1f underslating memnbrane should be installed in accordance with the recommendations
laid out in BS5534:2018. Installation can be carried out in all conditions normal to roofing work.
The product should be laid horizontally across the rafters, starting at the eaves. Protect 1f should
be laid up the roof slope, with a maximum drape between the rafter of 15mm .Unless counter
battened do not pull the Protect 1F taut. The minimum laps below are taken from BS 5534:2018.
Ventilation:
Protect 1f is classed as a HR underlay and requires ventilation in line with BS5250 2021.
Valleys:
An underlay strip of Protect 1F of at least 600mm wide should be laid under the main roof underlay
and held down by the valley battens. The underlay should be dressed over the valley battens.
Hips and Ridges:
A 600mm wide strip of Protect 1F should be laid over hips/ridges and above the underlay to the
main roof.
Abutments:
Flashings should be wedged into a mortar joint 25mm deep and at least 150mm above the level
of the slates or tiles. The underlay should be turned up behind the flashings at least 100mm to
prevent weather ingress being blown into the roof-space.
Eaves:
Tiles or slates should overhang the centre of the gutter. To avoid ponding behind the fascia.
Protect 1F should be supported with a Cromar Underlay Support Tray overlapped by a minimum
of 150mm.
