BRIAN LUMLEY's:
SPAWN OF THE WINDS

1st edition hardback
Illustrated by LINDA MICHAELS
W. Paul Ganley: Publisher (1995)
LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES

This book is an illustrated hardcover edition.,  It was published in a 1300 copy print run, of which 300 were saved for the slipcased edition.  This title was previously published in a mass-market paperback roughly 20 years earlier.  But this is the first hardcover edition.

This copy is NOT the SLIPCASED edition (that is also listed in my eBay store).  This is the regular first edition hard cover.

The Great Old Ones (as H P Lovecraft originally told us) existed long before the dawn of the human race. They conquered worlds, fought incredible battles, and mastered magic and science. Yet to us they seemed evil. And since that era, unable to be killed, they have been imprisoned in special places: Cthulhu in aeon-sunken R'lyeh; Hastur in the lake of Hali in Carcosa; Ithaqua in the wastes of the Arctic, etc. But they have their worshippers who seek to free them...

The Cthulhu Mythos was devised by H P Lovecraft, and extensively utilized in such stories as "The Call of Cthulhu." Furthermore, he urged his author-friends to add to the Mythos. As stories by Robert E. Howard, Henry Kuttner, Robert Bloch, and August Derleth poured forth, the mythos grew ... and in some ways became very different from his original conception. One of the many modern writers (such as Ramsey Campbell, Stephen King, the list is almost endless) who have used the concept of the mythos is Brian Lumley.

But who imprisoned the Great Old Ones? One answer to this is the Elder Gods who live in Elysia, a mysterious land not in our universe.

In these books Lumley continued his fantasy/horror/SF/adventure series, following what seemed to be the end of both Titus Crow and his friend deMarigny at the end of "The Burrowers Beneath."  SPAWN OF THE WINDS is the FOURTH book in the series of novels, following The Clock of Dreams, The Burrowers Beneath and Transition of Titus Crow.  (Transition is out of print in the slipcased edition, and Burrowers is out of print both in the slipcased and regular hard cover editions.)

For a change, Spawn of the Winds does not feature Titus Crow and/or his sidekick, DeMarigny, but another guy from Miskatonic:  Hank Silberhutte.
