CONDITION
In the original half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine, resulting in a small amount of loss of leather. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Small crack to the head of the joints. Boards and spine are a little discoloured in places. Hinges are starting but firm. Institutional label to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots. Institutional stamp to the title page, ink to the reverse of the title page. Institutional stamp to a few pages, including to the plates. Some plates are a little edge worn with some tidemarks. Plates of Melbourne and Grote are edge worn with some closed tears, not affecting the portraits. Page 167/168 is worn with a little loss to the gutter, though leaf is not detaching.
