Ralstonism was a social movement in 19th century United States, and the brainchild of Webster Edgerly (1852–1926), writing this an many other books under the pseudonym Edmund Shaftesbury. This book explain many tenets of this movement engineered by Edgerly.

As explained in this book, the word Ralston is an acronym for Regine, Activity, Light, Strength, Temperation, Oxygen and Nature.
