This is an Antique  "Andersens Fairy Tales" book, published by Donohue Henneberry & Co., Chicago, Circa 1898.

There is no copyright, publishing, nor print date on the copyright page.  The 1898 date attribution is based on a Christmas gift inscription hand written in pencil on the front free end paper.

One of the photos shown the index of Hans Christian Andersen stories included in the 158 page book.

The book has a large number of illustrations.  Most are "Cuts" (Smaller than full-page illustrations and figures printed amid the text on a page of text), and there are also several Plates (full page illustrations with no text).  I do not know the derivation of the illustrations, but the appear to me to be similar in appearance to woodcuts.

There are six pages of biographical information on the author at the front of the book.

The book measures 7 3/4" x 10" x 1".

 At the time of this listing, I will also be adding additional listings other antique and vintage children's books, as well as illustrations from several vintage striped books that would be wonder for use in scrapbooking, decoupage, crafts, or classroom use.

Condition

Interior pages

The interior pages are in very good condition, clean and flat with pretty uniform color, with only light to moderate toning.  The is some minor, pretty uniform rounding right at the tips of the corners.  The exception to the good page condition is the front free endpaper, the title page, and the index page which have tears on the former, and a stain on the latter as seen.

The interior page are assembled in groups of ten leaves, folded in half to produce 20 pages (i.e. 10 two-sided pages).  These groups were then assembled by stapling with a heavy duty staple.

Boards

The boards are in very poor condition.  The photos show the many condition issues quite well, so I am opting not to enumerate then.  Review the photos and make your own assessment of the boards.  The book is offered as found / as seen / as described with respect to the boards.

The boards were originally assembled to the spine with cloth tape or bind, and perhaps the spine may have been glued as well, but, as found, the spine is completely missing so I do not know for sure.
