In 1966, Frank Zappa and his band released the first rock concept double album in history: Freak Out! Producer of the Mothers of Invention was a key figure in the 1960s rock scene in the USA, with Tom Wilson. In addition to Phil Spector and Teo Macero, Wilson is considered an architect of that musical era. Before he discovered Frank Zappa's former band The Soul Giants in a bar and signed them for the jazz-label Verve, Wilson had produced several LPs by Bob Dylan. Shortly after Freak Out! he was responsible for albums of the Velvet Underground. An excess of material left Freak Out! will be the first double debut album in rock history (Bob Dylan's Blonde On Blonde was released in parallel in June of the year — but that was Dylan's seventh album). The Mothers of Invention is reinforced by a studio orchestra. To Freak Out! , Zappa, in his typically satirical way, took the teen-pop at the time and reflected the freak subculture of Los Angeles. But even though he made fun of the conventions, Zappa's gifted pop vein can be seen within the unpredictable arrangements and controlled strange melodies. Between the Dada-istic rebellious compositions, there is room for ordinary knitted love songs. Today, the eclectic masterpiece between R&B, doo-wop, orchestral rock and avant-garde is an absolute cult album, which is on the Grammy Hall of Fame and the all-time leaderboard of the music media
