If you ever find yourself in New Orleans, check out Faulkner House Books in the French Quarter. The historic location is where William Faulkner wrote his first novel, Soldier’s Pay. They have a wonderful selection of first edition books and of course Faulkner books!

.

I got this first edition of Larry Brown’s first book which used to belong to Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Ford and to whom Brown has penned a wonderful inscription and dated in year of publication. The store manager was full of great stories including the fact that Cormac McCarthy has been to the store on many occasions (don’t forget The Passenger is set in New Orleans). Last time he was in town he was staying with Richard Ford at his former residence in Burbon Street.
