On auction, we have The Pen Pictures From The Garden Of The World's "Illustrated History Of Los Angeles County California". This is the First Edition published in 1889 by The Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago. It is filled with illustrations and numerous tissue protected portraits. This was originally a fine binding with impressed brown leather and gold decorative printing. The edges of the pages were gold. This 835 page book measures 11 3/4" X 9 1/2" X 3" and weighs 8 pounds 8.5 ounces.
I believe this may still be in good condition. The front cover is detached. The once beautiful binding is scuffed, scratched, spotted and very worn. The edges have wear and the corners are bare. Inside, the pages have occasional foxing, but most are clear. Some tissue protectors are creased and/or torn. This appears to be complete and securely bound. There is no bookplate and no writing inside. As I am not an expert on rare books, please view all photos for more description.
My friend who collects everything is moving to a smaller home and starting to part with some of his favorite things.
I will be happy to answer any questions, send more photographs and, of course, combine your shipping.
