Circa 1889 – 39 STAR FLAG
The rare 39-star flag was never an official flag of America. In
the late 1800s, it was anticipated that the Dakota territories were would come
in as a single state. Flag manufacturers mistakenly gambled possibility of the
Dakota Territory entering the Union as one state and produced and manufactured
the flag of 39-star flags. It was common for makers to produce flags in advance
of their official dates. This was a result of customer demand and competition
between the makers. Parade Flags like this were shipped to Hardware and General
Stores which would attach to wooden sticks and sell to the general public for ceremonies.
