Paradise Lost: A Poem in Twelve Books by John Milton

London: The Folio Society, [2003]. First printing thus. With a preface by Peter Ackroyd, an introduction by John Wain and illustrations by William Blake. 328 × 250 × 41 mm. Pp. [i–viii] ix–xxi [xxii–xxiv], [1–2] 3–304: [12] leaves of colour plates. Type: Bembo with Centaur for display. Typeset by Gloucester Typesetting, printed and bound by Cambridge University Press. Quarter dark green morocco, pale orange artificial silk boards; dark green endleaves. Dark green slip case with a colour reproduction of one of Blake’s paintings on the front panel. The text is largely reprinted from the edition published in 1991 (item 695), with only the preliminary matter reset. It has been illustrated, however, with a splendid series of reproductions of watercolours by Blake, and has been given a new binding in keeping with the colours used by the artist in his paintings.

Very good book with pages tightly bound and free of inscriptions, with only very light sunning to spine. In a near-fine slipcase with a little shelf-wear.
