EXCEPTIONAL BOXED Canon 7 Rangefinder OUTFIT 📷 Leica Screwmount Rangefinder Camera Body, 50/f1.8 Lens, “S-42” Lens Hood, Lens Cap, Both Leather Cases (Body & Lens and Lens Hood), Canon “Maker’s Box” with MATCHING SERIAL NUMBERS (Camera Body and Lens), and 2 Handwritten Receipts — BOTH in Japanese — dated “38-7-23” (38th Year, 7th Month, 23rd Day). The Camera Body, Lens and Lens Hood are all in NEAR MINT Condition.

As an FYI: the year of manufacture/sale was NOT 1938; Japanese marked their years according to their Emperor’s Reign. Hirohito had been Emperor for 38 years by 1964.

I acquired this outfit from a gentleman who served as a Japanese Military Officer during WWII. He purchased this camera set-up nearly two decades after the war, but rarely ever used it (as is obvious from the cosmetic condition). The camera remained in its box for virtually ALL of its life.

Functionally, it remains in virtually LIKE NEW Condition as well! The Shutter Speeds have tested very close to spot on (more than close enough for film photography). The Light Meter is also very darn close to a modern digital meter — pretty awesome for a NON battery powered 60 year old vintage Canon Selenium Cell meter! Likewise, the Self-Timer is snappy and completely functional — tripping the shutter exactly as it should. The Rangefinder is very accurate and highly contrasty. The Metal Foil Focal Plane Shutters are light-tight and perfectly functional, plus they are in unusually great condition (the primary shutter is bend free, the secondary has just a few very minor bends in it😃👍).

The Lens is in very similar functional and cosmetic condition. Externally she is in EX++ to almost Near Mint Condition. The only real traces of handling are to the very edge of the filter trim ring. Other than that area, the lens would rate a SOLID Near Mint cosmetic condition.

Functionally, she is in EX+ condition as well. The aperture blades work perfectly and there is NO oil present, NO wear and NO signs of problems to the barrel or other mechanical aspects.

The front coating is in EXCEPTIONAL condition. There are NO scratches or marks of any kind. Further, there is NO fungus or other serious internal issues. The only thing worth pointing out is a very thin layer of dust present towards the back of the lens. …Yes, “surprise - there’s a faint bit of dust inside of a 60 year old lens”. 😆 This may or may not have any impact on image quality were you to utilize this lens for photography. If you wanted to be absolutely certain it would not, a “CLA” of the Lens would be a good idea. 😉

All around, this 60 year-old camera is in a condition which is exceptionally hard to find for a product of this type and age!

You might be asking at this point: “How is this even possible?!” Well, I’ll tell you… I’ve had this set-up in my personal collection since the mid/late 80s. As such, it’s been in a climate controlled environment, and it’s been babied beyond belief (yes, I’m a Leica & Canon Rangefinder Collector, and yes — we’re a bit fanatical about our gear 😉).

Ultimately, please refer to the extra-large photos for condition. They would be your best way to judge the overall condition of this gem. However, I would ask you to keep in mind that she IS well over a Half Century old, so please keep in mind that we can’t perform age-defying miracles! 😆
