Vintage Papua New Guinea painted lime gourd with wild pig tusk stopper.  This beautifully painted gourd has a custom fitted stopper woven of native grasses and topped with the tusk of a small wild pig.   Such containers are used to store and carry lime which is used in connection with chewing betel nut.  This was purchased by my great Aunt in the 1970's.  It occupied a place of honor in her collection of Pacific Island treasures.   It is in excellent condition.
Total height is 3.75" x 2.5" wide.  The total height of the stopper is 1.75" x .75" diameter.   The tooth is .75" long.  The hole in the gourd is .75 diameter.
