Available with this listing is the 2006 Epic Legacy/Sony BMGMusic digitally remastered CD release of the 1975 Jet Records/United Artists album“Face the Music”  by Electric Light Orchestra. This remastered release includes theoriginal eight tracks from the initial release plus four additional bonustracks. The disc is NEW and SEALED in its original shrink-wrapand therefore we can safely say that the disc, case, inlay, and any insertmaterial is in pristine, mint condition. We can also safely state that the CDhas never been played.

“Face the Music” is the fifth studio album by Electric LightOrchestra. It was released in September 1975 by United Artists Records and on14 November 1975 in the United Kingdom by Jet Records. The album moves awayfrom the large-scale classical orchestrated sound from the previous album, “Eldorado”,in favour of more “radio-friendly” pop/rock songs, though the string sectionsare still very prominent. The new sound proved successful for the group as “Facethe Music” was the first ELO album to go platinum.

By January 1975, bass player Mike de Albuquerque and cellistMike Edwards had left the band during the “Eldorado” recording sessions andsubsequent tour, respectively. Bass player Kelly Groucutt and classicallytrained cellist Melvyn Gale both joined the band as their replacements. The newlineup introduced for this album became a stabilized and iconic one for theband's next 5 years and has been called by ELO fans the "classicline-up". We concur with this opinion, in that “Face the Music” is ourfavorite early release by the band.

Following the conclusion of the European leg of the “Eldorado”tour, the band began recording the new album at Musicland Studios in Munich,Germany. ELO had frequently opened for Deep Purple for the initial NorthAmerican leg of the “Eldorado” Tour, and Deep Purple had recommended Musiclandto ELO. This was the first time ELO recorded at Musicland and the band wouldlater return to record most of the future albums here due to frontman JeffLynne’s great fondness for it and his working relationship with sound engineer ReinholdMack.

Lynne, also the band’s sole songwriter, wanted to movetowards more tunes that would be memorable rather than the usualprogressive-rock style of the group's first three albums and straight symphonicsound of “Eldorado”. New measures were taken to ensure a more complex butsatisfying sound, such as backing female vocalists of Ellie Greenwich, SusanCollins, Nancy O’Neill, and Margaret Raymond; a choir; and the band’s stringtrio of Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, and Melvyn Gale mixed into the backing30-piece string section and also allowing them to perform some of the solos onthe records.

While Lynne was the lead vocalist for a vast majority of theband's songs, Kelly Groucutt sang lead vocals on “Poker” and (alternating withLynne) on “Nightrider”, giving the tracks a dynamic sound. The backingorchestra was recorded separately from the band’s initial sessions, beingrecorded instead at De Lane Lea Studios in London, England.

The back cover of the record sleeve shows the members of theband with their faces pressed against a glass panel, supposedly watching the “electrocution”depicted on the front cover. Richard Tandy is looking away, because he didn’tlike the idea and didn’t want to participate.
