Dante Alighieri The Divine Comedy 1947 HC Illus Umberto Romano Literary Guild G.

The Divine Comedy is a long narrative poem by Dante Alighieri.

It is a first-person narrative that explores Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven from the perspective of the author.

The poem is divided into three parts, each with 33 cantos, or chapters: Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso.

The plot is simple:

A man, generally assumed to be Dante himself, is miraculously enabled to undertake an ultramundane journey, which leads him to visit the souls in Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise.

The Roman poet Virgil guides him through Hell and Purgatory; Beatrice, Dante's ideal woman, guides him through Heaven.
