After moving to the United States at nine, Acosta settled in Jersey City, New Jersey, before relocating to Union City. His musical journey continued through high school and later at Kennedy's Music World, where he honed his skills in music and sound engineering.

In 1994, Acosta formed Oro Sólido and released their self-titled debut album. The band quickly gained popularity with hits like "Ta Cache," "La Tanguita Roja," and "Maria se Fue." Their music, blending traditional merengue with contemporary sounds, resonated widely, earning them numerous awards and nominations including Premios Estrella, Premios ACE, and Premios Lo Nuestro.
