An Account of the Conduct of the Dowager Duchess of Marlborough, 

from her first coming to Court, to the year 1710. In a letter from herself to My Lord 

1742 

The first edition of this work regarding the influential courtier, formidable character, and close friend of Queen Anne, Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Malborough. Written with the help of Nathaniel Hooke - the eldest son of John Hooke, sergeant-at-law, and nephew of Nathaniel Hooke the Jacobite soldier. He is thought by John Kirk to have studied with Alexander Pope at Twyford School, and to have formed a lifelong friendship there. 

**London; Printed by George Hawkins, at Milton's head between the Two Temple Gates. MDCCXLII. 1742. Pagination; [2], 3-316pp. Bound to the front is a facsimile copy of a portrait of the Duchess [was not published with frontis]. Bound in period mottled calf, raised bands to the spine.**


Condition: See photos as part of condition report: Bound in period mottled calf, front joint cracked with the board attached by cords only, head and foot of the sine chipped, lacking upper headband, remnants of a manuscript title to the spine, extremities rubbed. bookplate to the front pastedown [Lord W Kerr G.C.B]. Text block firm period ink name to the title "Nath[aniel] Stuart. A facsimile of an engraved plate bound into the front as a frontis [looking at bibliographical references, sold copies, and scanned copies, we can't find any evidence of this book being published with a frontis]. light foxing and toning/browning to the majority.
