Two images of this 122-year-old first edition are shown below. It is: The Deserted Village, by Oliver Goldsmith, Published by Harper & Brothers, 1902, first edition. This poem, an homage to rural life, was first published in 1770; the book offered here is the first edition with these illustrations; it measures 9 3/4" x 7" and is 120 pages. The book is in Very Good condition with some fading and soiling to the binding (e.g., please see image #2 below), with a gift inscription on a blank preliminary page, and with some additional gentle wear. There are 32, charming, full-page, halftone illustrations by Edwin Abbey (e.g., please see image #1 below). They are in Fine condition and blank on the reverse. There is no former-owner's bookplate inside, no foxing, and there are no loose pages. All page edges are gilt; all pages are high-quality, glossy paper. The book will be shipped in a solid new box anywhere in the United States via USPS Media Mail for free.
